Iconic Catalina Island landmark Wrigley Memorial inspires race meda AVALON, Calif. – The 2025 Catalina Island Half Marathon and 10K finisher medal has been unveiled, featuring one of the island’s historic landmarks, Wrigley Memorial. Created by local Catalina Island artist Robin Cassidy of Silver Canyon Pottery, the design honors the island’s rich history while serving as a memorable keepsake for participants. Each year, the medal is designed to encompass the spirit of the island and celebrate its unique beauty and charm. The annual race will return Saturday, Nov. 8, and is expected to welcome runners from around the country to California’s ultimate trail half marathon. The Catalina Island Half Marathon has consistently worked with Cassidy over the years to design the event’s finisher medals. The medals are also made with sustainable clay materials, reflecting Run Catalina Island’s prominent sustainability efforts. With a focus on island conservation, the race partners with sustainability-focused vendors and operates a cupless course in cooperation with the Catalina Island Conservancy. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hydration system or purchase a reusable cup from the store, helping the event reduce waste and minimize its impact on the island’s resources. The Catalina Island Half Marathon will take participants on a scenic course through the many trails of the island. Runners will pass the Wrigley Memorial on the course, where the centerpiece of the botanic garden honors the memory of William Wrigley Jr., whose greatest legacy was his vision for Santa Catalina Island to remain protected for future generations. The memorial also celebrates the island itself, incorporating local stone and Catalina Tile. The beautiful structure offers breathtaking views down Avalon Canyon and across the San Pedro Channel to the mainland, making it a memorable highlight for participants during the race. “We love the continued work Robin has done for us on our medals,” said Mike Bone, President and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, which produces the Catalina Island Half Marathon. “She truly captures the magic of Catalina Island through her artistry, highlighting the island’s natural beauty and charm in each design. We can’t wait for our runners to take home this year’s medal and enjoy a lasting reminder of the Catalina Island experience.” hallenge participants with hilly terrain, climbs, and sweeping vistas. Starting in the town of Avalon, participants pass the Wrigley Mansion before heading into the Island’s Interior for several miles of uphill terrain. At the summit, runners are rewarded with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and, on clear days, two of the Channel Islands. After running past the summit, they will run downhill through the Wrigley Memorial before finishing back in town. The 10K begins in the heart of Avalon, weaving through the city before climbing 2.5 miles of trails just above the town. Participants will journey past some of Avalon’s most famous landmarks, including the Casino building, by the Wrigley’s house, on to horse trails, past the golf course and loop back into town, finishing by the fountain, the landmark of downtown Avalon. The Catalina Island Half Marathon is a part of Run Catalina Island’s Triple Crown Challenge. The challenge involves completing all three Run Catalina Island events within a 12-month period. This includes the Avalon 50K or 50 Mile, Catalina Island Marathon, and Catalina Island Half Marathon. Runners may begin their Catalina Island Triple Crown journey with any one of these races, but all specified distances must be completed within a 12-month period, meaning they must finish all three races consecutively once they begin. Athletes who complete the challenge receive discounted registration for all three events, individual event swag for each race, an official Triple Crown finisher jacket, Hi-Tec shoes, and a one-of-a-kind belt buckle.
