Position Overview
Race Field Techs are hands-on, event-focused, and responsible for the physical setup, technical execution, and operational support of road races, trail runs, and multi-sport events.
Race Field Techs frequently operates independently at the event venue, ensuring all timing hardware and event elements (inflatable arch, course marks, etc) are properly deployed to seamlessly sync with our remote scoring team. They also provide support/trouble shooting for packet pick-up volunteers.
This is a role suited to someone who is: prompt and on-time, active and likes to be outside, likes to interact with people, thinks quickly on their feet, like to problem solve, remains positive/calm under duress, and can work independently.
LOCATIONS: We are looking for people in the following metros and surrounding areas: Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Equipment Setup:
Load and unload timing vans.
Assemble finish line truss structures.
Lay down timing mats properly.
Set up race day signage.
Position backup video cameras safely.
Deploy generators and power cables.
Packet Pickup & Registration Support
Help set up registration tables and tents.
Support volunteers as they check-in and register participants.
Operate check-in computers or tablets.
Resolve registration issues for participants.
Race Operations & Breakdown
Setup and monitor timing equipment during races. You do not need experience timing!
Keep a written record of finishers numbers (bibs) as the cross the finish line.
Collect reusable timing chips from runners.
Break down all event gear efficiently.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Capability to stand for extended periods.
Comfort working outdoors in all weather.
Schedule & Availability
Must work early weekend mornings (e.g., 4:00 AM – Noon).
Reliable personal transportation to race sites. Company vehicles may be available as well.
Technical & Soft Skills
Basic experience using tablets and apps.
Customer service orientated.
Can work well in teams as well as independently.
Ability to follow strict safety protocols.
Compensation and Terms
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099).
Pay Rate: Hourly or flat day-rate.
Frequency: Occasional, event-based weekend work.
Training: We will train you and pay your for that training time.
Must pass a criminal background check. (we will pay for this)
Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s license and a clean driving record (no major at-fault accidents or regular moving violations)
