WHAT: To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Global Running Day, June 3, New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that “runs” New York City producing 60 annual adult and youth races including the TCS New York City Marathon, encourages people of all ages and abilities to be active and experience the physical, mental, and community benefits of movement.  

New York Road Runners will host more than 1,200 kids ages 8–18 from across the five boroughs for free running and fitness activities at the Rising New York Road Runners Global Running Day Field Day at Icahn Stadium in Randall’s Island. The field day is one of more than 20 free Rising New York Road Runners youth events the nonprofit hosts during the year, encouraging kids to be physically active and build their confidence to cross any finish line. Participants will include members of Rising New York Road Runners, a free running-based youth program that serves 200,000 students nationwide, with 100,000 students in New York City. 

To join in the festivities anywhere around the world, athletes can participate in the official Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 5KPowered by Strava, which can be completed anywhere, anytime until June 7. Kids can get involved, too, with the Rising NYRR Global Running Day Virtual Run.

ABOUT GLOBAL RUNNING DAY:

Founded in 2009 as National Running Day by New York Road Runners and other running organizations, the celebration became Global Running Day in 2016 and features events and celebrations to bring people around the world together through running. Held annually on the first Wednesday of June, Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving, have fun, and inspire others.
