Chicago, IL — The streets of Chicago will come alive on the 11th of October, 2026, as runners, volunteers, and spectators gather for the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, highlighting the power of unity, inclusivity, and shared values. This year’s race promises not only world-class athletic competition but also a celebration of the people and neighborhoods that make the city truly special.

Now heading into its 48th edition, the Marathon has become more than just a race—it’s a symbol of connection and civic spirit. From the iconic loop along Lake Michigan to the diverse neighborhoods cheering along the route, every step of the marathon reflects the energy and resilience of the people of Chicago. Runners from all 50 states and from over 100 countries will converge to take part in an event that blends elite performance with grassroots participation.
At the core of the marathon is the theme of community, support, and togetherness, with initiatives designed to bring Chicagoans together. Local schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations are actively involved, from volunteer support to fundraising efforts, while thousands of spectators poor onto the streets along the 26.2-mile course to ensure runners experience the warmth and pride from 29 of Chicago’s unique neighborhoods.

The marathon serves as a platform for philanthropy, raising millions of dollars for local and national charities each year. From health initiatives to educational programs, the Chicago Marathon is a force for positive change, proving that the collective effort of over 10,000 volunteers, 18,000 charity participants, and 1,7 million on-course spectators cheering on can have a lasting impact on the broader community. In 2024 alone, participants raised $36 million for local, national and global nonprofits, the highest fundraising total in event history.
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, the 48th Bank of America Chicago Marathon will once again reflect the power running has in bringing people together and the strength of Chicago’s neighborhoods in supporting one another. The registration window to apply is currently open until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18.
