45th anniversaryNew race format: Premiere of the Garmin BERLIN MILE at BERLIN HALF MARATHONPartner news: PelotonOn March 29, 2026, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON will celebrate its 45th anniversary. Organizer SCC EVENTS looks back on an extraordinary success story that is closely linked to Berlin’s development into Germany’s capital, while at the same time looking ahead to a promising future. As early as the 1980s, road races shaped sporting life in both parts of the city: while the Peace Race was the largest road race of the year in the GDR, the Berlin Half Marathon organized by SC Charlottenburg in West Berlin had a more local character and served as a form test ahead of the BERLIN MARATHON. Around ten months after the fall of the Wall, a joint race took place in late summer 1990. Over the following decades, this developed into one of the largest and highest-caliber half marathons in the world. The event received a significant upgrade in 2019: since then, both the start and finish have been located on Straße des 17. Juni, with the finish line situated directly behind the Brandenburg Gate—one of the most impressive backdrops in the world of road running. Since 2024, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON has been part of the SuperHalfs, an international series of renowned half marathon events. The series combines high sporting standards with a strong sense of community and inspires participants to realize their performance potential while experiencing the host cities in depth. Its international significance is also reflected in participation figures: athletes from more than 100 nations take part in the Berlin race each year. The proportion of female participants has now risen to over 40 percent and continues to grow. This places the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON among the events with the highest percentage of women runners in Germany. The event also sets benchmarks in sporting terms: the course records rank among the best in the world. Service, quality, and the creation of emotional experiences have always been central to SCC EVENTS’ philosophy. Accordingly, the event program will be further expanded for the anniversary year: for the first time, the Garmin BERLIN MILE at GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON will take place. Covering the classic mile distance of 1.609 kilometers, the course runs along the final kilometers of the half marathon—from Lustgarten near Berlin Cathedral and the Humboldt Forum past the State Opera and Humboldt University to the finish line behind the Brandenburg Gate. For many years, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON has relied on strong and dependable partners. The sponsorship portfolio is continuously expanded and developed with a long-term perspective. As a leading active tech company, Garmin will not only be the title sponsor of the Garmin BERLIN MILE in 2026, but will also serve as the official timing partner for the entire event. “We want to motivate people to get moving—whether it’s taking the first step, participating in their first running event, or striving toward new personal goals. The Garmin BERLIN MILE at GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON offers the opportunity to experience the mile in an individual way and become part of a great community,” says Kai Tutschke, Managing Director of Garmin DACH. Christian Jost, CEO of SCC EVENTS, adds: “Garmin is a reliable and innovative partner for us who not only enriches our events technologically, but also shares our vision of inspiring people to come together through movement and sport and creating unforgettable moments. The partnership underscores our shared commitment to quality, experience, and community.” Once again, Peloton is an official partner of the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON.
