
New York Road Runners to Host NYRR Team Champs with 300+ Local Running Clubs Competing in Five-Mile Race

WHAT:
New York Road Runners (NYRR)—the nonprofit that “runs” New York City producing 60 annual adult and youth races including theTCS New York Marathon—will host the city’s top running clubs for its annual NYRR Team Champs 5-Milerace Sunday, July 26, in Central Park. The event celebrates the best of New York City’s running culture, bringing together 5,000 athletes representing more than 300 local clubs.

WHO:
NYRR Team Champs brings the city’s run club community together for one of the most anticipated events of the year, with club teams represented by runners of all ages and paces from across the five boroughs who share camaraderie and a common bond through running.
New York Road Runners leadership and members of New York City’s running clubs will be available for interviews on site, including:
- Ted Metellus, New York Road Runners Chief Event Production Officer & Race Director
- Brooklyn Track Club: One of the city’s largest and most social clubs with 700+ active members; currently leading the Club Points Series in the men’s division
- Central Park Track Club: One of the most competitive clubs in New York City; currently leading the Club Points Series in the women’s division
- Dominican Runners: An athletic club and cultural community that promotes runners of all levels through social training, organized races, and cultural events that celebrate Dominican and Latino identity in the United States.
- Front Runners New York: New York City’s LGBTQ+ running club; currently leading the Club Points Series in the nonbinary division
- Dashing Whippets: A competitive and inclusive team representing runners from all over the world
- New York Flyers: One of New York City’s largest teams, known for their friendly, small‑club feel
- Misty Mountain Runners: From dim sum in Chinatown to potluck parties, from training to volunteering, the members of this large club focus on staying healthy and having fun
ADDITIONAL RACE BACKGROUND:
As a signature event in the nonprofit’s Club Points Series—a program in which running clubs accumulate points throughout the year at various New York Road Runners races—NYRR Team Champs 5-Miler offers double points and bragging rights for competing clubs. At the end of the year, top running clubs are honored at NYRR Club Night, a club-focused award ceremony New York Road Runners has hosted since 1980.
Running clubs continue to thrive across New York City, offering community, connection, and a shared passion for the sport. Sunday’s event showcases the breadth of the city’s running community, bringing together established clubs and emerging teams to compete for NYRR Team Champs glory.
New York Road Runners works with more than 300 local running clubs during the year through its quarterly Club Council meetings, and encourages friendly competition and community give-back among them.
