So it seems for only the second time ever, a Dad (me!) and three of his children (Elle, Luke and Max) will all be running in the same Boston Marathon together! So proud. We are running to support our own foundation, the Finish Strong Foundation, as well as a few other specific causes. Elle will be raising donations for a program within the foundation called Running is a Right where we provide running blades to kids with prosthetics who qualify for such a blade. She has her owned GivenGain fundraising page under Elle McGillivray – Running for Running is a Right.
Max who has twice run the marathon is also running for a charity called Justice Health Initiative which partners with hospitals and community members to provide holistic healthcare services to children suffering severe medical conditions that cannot be treated in their home countries. Specifically, Max is running for Fati and Mariem, courageous conjoined twins who came to Boston in search of a chance at independent life. After multiple complex procedures to prepare them internally for separation, they are now waiting for their final surgery, the one that will allow them to live as two independent children. JHI has supported Fati and Mariem every step of the way ensuring they receive care, advocacy, and family support throughout this journey.
We are also so thrilled to be joined by Sunita Williams, the US astronaut who recently spent 9 months in space in the International Space Station (ISS). In 2007, Sunita actually ran the Boston Marathon on a treadmill in the ISS! Joining along, too, is Charlie Breen, a cousin of Luke and Elle who ran with Luke last year in their Boston Marathon debut. Lastly, another 20 runners from around the world have signed on with the Finish Strong Foundation Team.
We all would be honored and grateful for your generosity in making a donation of any amount to our foundation. We are also all running in memory of Susan Hurley who founded Charity Teams 17 years ago and who helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for our Foundation.

The foundation seeks to inspire and empower youth across New England and beyond to increase physical activity, expand literacy, and build community and self-esteem through running, reading, and performing acts of kindness. Their vision is rooted in a belief that discovering a passion for physical activity, reading, and acts of kindness at a young age gives individuals self-confidence and self-respect, which empowers them to move forward—one step at a time. The foundation is also the beneficiary of a fundraising documentary being produced this year called Miles of Meaning. For over eighteen years, the foundation has remained committed to preparing individuals for future success and building vibrant communities.
