1. Rita Jeptoo.

2. Jemima Sumgong.

3.Ruth Chepngetich.

4. Peres Jepchirchir.

These four celebrated marathon runners have become associated with doping violations.

Rita Jeptoo and Jemima Sumgong were under the management of the Italian management outfit Rosa Associati, associated with Italian coach Federico Rosa.

Rita Jeptoo received a two-year ban after an EPO finding, while Jemima Sumgong received a four-year ban for doping and later an additional eight-year sanction for tampering with the disciplinary process.

Ruth Chepngetich was handed a three-year ban over violations involving the prohibited diuretic hydrochlorothiazide.

Then came Peres Jepchirchir, whose agent is Italian manager Gianni Demadonna. This week on October 23, 2026, the Athletics Integrity Unit provisionally suspended her after a sample tested positive for EPO. Her case is still subject to the anti-doping process; a provisional suspension is not the same as a final sanction.

These are Four Popular athletes with a recurring Italian management or coaching connection. All of them have four doping controversies.

At what point does a recurring pattern deserve a deeper investigation into the management, coaching and support networks surrounding elite Kenyan athletes?

This is not proof that Italian managers or coaches caused, encouraged or knew about doping. Nor does it establish that all four athletes had identical management arrangements.

But the connections raise legitimate questions about athlete supervision, medical support, accountability and the responsibilities of those who profit from managing elite runners.

Kenya cannot fight doping effectively by focusing only on the athletes who test positive. The wider professional networks surrounding them deserve scrutiny wherever credible evidence warrants it.

The coincidence is striking. The evidence must determine what it means.
