RunThrough decided to delete their post so – An absolute shambles. Who thought it was a good idea to march hundreds of Half Marathon runners down the finish route of the 10km, 5 minutes before the first runner was due in? Quite clearly no concern for runners or spectators safety – my Husband ended up in hospital due to colliding with the huge crowd of runners walking towards him whilst he was running to the finish line and has a fractured ankle, which means he is out and now cannot participate in other events he has booked (which all cost money). This race cost £34 and was a joke from start to finish – the “start line” was only set up 15 minutes before the race was due to begin, a member of staff was asked where the start line was at 8:30 and their response was “I’ve no idea, don’t ask me”. RunThrough argued that they had to change the plans of where Runners could exit Quibell Park to get to the start line due to the “flooded area” near where they put the toilets – this “flooded area” has been like this the whole of Winter, if they had done a risk assessment prior to the event they would’ve known this. There was one Marshall seen ignoring people. The gates were not open to the track itself from the field (they have been every other year the run was arranged by a different company) so spectators were also expected to walk along the running route to get to the finish line; this also meant when my husband was laid on the floor screaming in agony we could see him and hear him but could not get to him easily. The medical car struggled to get through the crowds of people being lead out. There was no lead car. The “safety bike” came in 15 minutes before the first runner and then the lead bike dropped off at 9km, so who was guiding the runners and helping clear the path to the finish – spectators and members of the public! Although an experience, it wasn’t quite what he’d planned. Bring back Tape 2 Tape or get a monkey to organise it.
