In the first instance of large races reaching out to support smaller races impacted by COVID-19 in their communities, P3R, the organizers of the Pittsburgh Marathon and a number of other Pittsburgh area races, is offering grants to Western Pennsylvania races impacted by the COVID-19 virus. The organization has set aside an initial total of $10,000 in grant money, which may increase based on the number of grant applicants. Criteria for evaluating the grants include (but not limited to) how many years the event has been held, how many runners typically participate in the event, and how much money the event typically raises for charity. Organizations have until June 19 to apply with the awards announced by June 30, 2020.
