Ryan Rutherford to Run Steamboat Classic 4 Mile in Peoria June 16; Kevin Lewis Wins 10,000m Race at Portland Track Festival on June 9
Minneapolis/St. Paul – June 11, 2018 – Team USA Minnesota’s Ryan Rutherford will compete in the annual Steamboat Classic 4 Mile in Peoria on June 16 and Kevin Lewis notched a win in the 10,000 meters at the Portland Track Festival on June 9.
Rutherford, who is from Bloomington, Illinois, and a graduate of Illinois State University, returns to his home state for the Steamboat race which starts at 7:00 a.m. Last year he finished sixth in a time of 19:05.
In Portland, not only did Lewis win the 10,000m event on the track, he ran a personal best time of 28:32.06 (previous best was 28:56.66). He also qualified for the USATF Outdoor Championships – qualifying time is 28:40 – which will be held in Des Moines June 21-24.
“Big win at the Portland Track Festival 10k,” posted Lewis after the race. “I came away with a huge PR in 28:32.06 to also get under the USA Track and Field Championships qualifying standard. It was awesome. I wasn’t expecting it (the win) but I stuck myself out there and took what I could get as it came to me. Back to back years with a PR, this place is great.”
Lewis is a native of Iowa who competed collegiately at the University of Iowa. He joined Team USA Minnesota in March 2017.
