ARRIGO AUTOMOTIVE GROUP FIREWORKS SHOW HIGHLIGHTS FRIDAY NIGHT FESTIVITIES OF THE FITTEAM PALM BEACHES MARATHON WEEKEND
The main event of FITTEAM Palm Beaches Marathon weekend November 30-December 2 will be the Sunday morning Marathon and Half Marathon race itself, but Friday night the skies above downtown West Palm Beach will be lit after the Bill Bone 5K kicks off Marathon weekend.
Arrigo Automotive Group will provide a Fiat Spider and Jeep as the official cars of Marathon weekend and will also sponsor a fireworks show along the Intracoastal after dark on Friday.
It's all part of the continued initiative by race owner Ken Kennerly to make the race a weekend community event that reaches far beyond simply runners and fitness enthusiasts.
"The support we are receiving from our sponsors like FITTEAM, Jupiter Medical Center and Arrigo is allowing us to bring entertainment elements for families to race weekend," Kennerly said. "It's part of our overall vision for this event as we head into year two and beyond."
The Bill Bone 5K will serve as a warm-up run for runners and walkers at 6:30 p.m. Friday. It will begin and end along Flagler Drive at Clematis Street with the Sandi Tree serving as a backdrop.
The Health and Fitness Expo will also be held downtown at the Lake Pavilion from 12 noon - 6:00 pm Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The Expo will feature the latest in health and fitness products and services, running apparel, and upcoming race information.
The featured Marathon and Half Marathon will begin at 6 a.m. Sunday on one of Florida's flattest and fastest courses which could turn out the quickest times in the state if weather cooperates because of the absence of bridges on the course. The race presents a great opportunity for runners to qualify for the Boston Marathon or record personal best times and also is very friendly to first-time distance runners.
The 26.2-mile route is built around the waterside beauty of Flagler Drive along the Intracoastal Waterway and runners will also get an expanded glimpse at the quaint, unique neighborhoods of Lake Worth. The combination makes the FITTEAM Palm Beaches Marathon a unique experience among distance races around the state and country.
The first two miles of the course will wind through downtown before runners turn North along Flagler and the Intracoastal, eventually landing at the turnaround at the Manatee Lagoon. The course continues back down Flagler past downtown until Mile Marker 13, when runners will veer to Federal Highway for the trip down into Lake Worth, where they will see houses that have stood for nearly 100 years. The course extends to Third Street before a turnaround that steers runners North to Lakeside Drive and eventually back to Flagler toward the finish.
The newly added 10K will begin at 7 a.m.
The fun atmosphere will again be accentuated on Marathon race day with the return of the traditional Wacky Water Stations, another element that makes The FITTEAM Palm Beaches Marathon a unique experience. Area charities and homeowners groups will man themed stations throughout the course. The groups will receive $200 toward their charity for participating and the most creative water station will receive a $1000 prize.
Runners who want to band together to form four-person teams can participate in the Relay Division of the race. There will be awards for Men, Women, Co-ed and Grand Masters teams.
Non-runners who wish to serve as Volunteers can email email@example.com to join a committee.
The FITTEAM Palm Beaches Marathon is again produced by K2 Sports Ventures , the sports event and marketing company owned by Kennerly, also the Executive Director of The Honda Classic PGA TOUR event in Palm Beach Gardens. Kennerly has teamed with sports event veteran John Mathews of Sunshine State Races in his quest to elevate the elite running event in Palm Beach County to a status as one of the best in the country.
FITTEAM, a Palm Beach Gardens based healthy lifestyle company, and Jupiter Medical Center return as major sponsors.
Registration is open at $110 for the Marathon, $90 for the Half Marathon, $60 for the 10K and $40 for the 5K. Packages for entry into multiple races are available along with more information at fitteampalmbeachesmarathon.com.
