SIR RICHARD BRANSON & MARY WITTENBERG ANNOUNCE RED-HOT FITNESS FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE AT VIRGIN SPORT SAN FRANCISCO 

 

Virgin Sport San Francisco will kick off first US-based Festival of Fitness, featuring the SF Bay Half Marathon, Twin Peaks Mile, and Go Fit Yourself Lineup led by local studios, ClassPass, and Flywheel Sports instructors on October 14-15 in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO (September 19, 2017) – Today, Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Sport Global CEO Mary Wittenberg announced programming details for the first-ever US-based, red-hot Festival of Fitness, Virgin Sport San Francisco, taking place on October 14-15, 2017.

 

Headlined by the SF Bay Half marathon, Twin Peaks Mile hill climb and the Go Fit Yourself Lineup of fitness classes at Civic Center, the event will curate unique workouts combined with local culture. The Festival will include local healthy food and beverage vendors from Off the Grid trucks, a Lagunitas beer garden, live music and art installations to celebrate San Francisco community and culture. Activations will be both free and paid, and attendees can register for classes and races on the Virgin Sport website.


The weekend-long Festival of Fitness will begin on Saturday, October 14th at 9am with the Twin Peaks Mile, a new, one-mile run up San Francisco’s iconic peak, with the following themed waves:

 

  • Style Mile: the ultimate, quad-busting fashion show where those who fancy a costume party on the move will run in colorful, quirky costumes

  • HIIT & Run: this high intensity interval training meets a one mile run will feature time-based, functional fitness challenges throughout the course

  • Straight Up: a no-frills, fast one-mile sprint uphill

  • Better Together: a group-race where running crews, charities, startups, corporate companies, and friends run together for fun and fitness

 

Local celebrity, in-arena emcee and TV Personality for the Golden State Warriors – also known as the "Warriors Hype Man" - Franco Finn will emcee the Twin Peaks Mile. A beer garden will flank the tippy-top finishing line, inviting racers to reward themselves with a Lagunitas beer, as Virgin Sport honors the best costumes during the Style Mile awards ceremony.

 

On Sunday, October 15th, the Virgin Sport SF Bay Half Marathon will start at 7am at Civic Center Plaza as Whit Raymond, legendary emcee for endurance sport events across the globe, hypes up participants. This challenging and iconic route invites runners past the Painted Ladies, through Golden Gate Park, up a noticeable incline through the Presidio, past views of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge, along the bay in the Marina District, and across rolling hills back to Civic Center Plaza.

 

In addition to the SF Bay Half Marathon, participants, friends and family members will sweat it out all day at the Go Fit Yourself Lineup at Civic Center, featuring three stages and a wide range of workout challenges for participants of all levels, led by top local instructors. 

 

The Go Fit Yourself Main Stage, hosted by Franco Finn, will pump audiences up as they participate in diverse fitness experiences including:

  • Butts & Guts led by Rosario Rios Aguilar, who’ll bring on the fun and burn as participants work out their glutes and core to the max.
  • A Headspace Two-Minute Meditation where Headspace co-founder Andy Puddicombe will lead a unique pre-race group meditation with Sir Richard Branson for runners at the starting line to kick off the SF Bay Half Marathon and help runners gain focus ahead of the race. 
  • Muscle & Flow™ led by San Francisco-based, sweat-dealing instructor, Shauna HarrisonThis is Yoga: Remixed. Part Power, part Vinyasa fused with elements of sports training, fitness and Pilates, this class will take traditional yoga and give it some edge with a hip-hop soundtrack.
  • HIIT class instructed by San Francisco’s all-star trainer, Erica Stenz, who will lead sweat-seekers in a full bodyweight cardio blast and muscle toning session, courtesy of Motiv, the Official Wearable Technology Partner for Virgin Sport San Francisco

At the ClassPass Stage, local fitness studio partners will lead participants through diverse workouts including:

  • Power Yoga by The Pad: Enjoy an energizing, music-filled Vinyasa flow class, appropriate for students of all ages and fitness levels. The experience will be dynamic and physically demanding, enabling participants to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and energize body, mind, and spirit. 
  • Total Body Burn by BurnSF: Sweat, tone and flow through Hiit Cardio segments, Kickass Pilates Sequences and functional strengthening movements. Find out how strong you are.  Connect to your body.  Free your mind.
  • AbSculpt by Wheel House: 45 minutes of body weight-based strength training mixed with a solid workout for mid-sections. This all the ABSolution needed after a weekend of play.
  • MNTbarre by MNTSTUDIO: An energetic, fun workout that fuses fitness techniques from dance, Pilates, and yoga that will tone, define, and chisel the whole body. Designed to sculpt a dancer's body, it’s an addicting, music-filled class.
  • Hip Hop by Uforia Studios: If you have dreams of starring in your own music video, this is the class for you! This class pairs progressive choreography with amazing Hip Hop music designed to have you dancing, sweating up a storm and dropping low.
The Flywheel Sports Stage will offer immersive, music-driven cycling workouts all day long, with customized technology and fitness-focused metrics to help riders gauge their efforts and track their performance.

 

Flywheel Sports and Official Hotel Partner, The Westin St. Francis, will be joining the Virgin Sport roster of partners, including wearable technology company Motiv, heathy hydration brand Nuun, fitness membership platform ClassPass, organic and nutritious foods company CLIF BAR® and the personal trainer for the mind and leader in meditation, Headspace, to create an experience that celebrates the sweat of sport with the swagger of Virgin.

 

Collaborating with the Council for Responsible Sport, Virgin Sport will ensure the event is socially and environmentally responsible by:

 

  • Partnering with local, women-owned business, Green Mary, to divert at least 75% of the event’s waste from landfill
  • Providing bike valet at Twin peaks & Civic Center Plaza thanks to local non-profit, SF Bike Coalition 
  • Offering complimentary water refill stations at all events
  • Donating all left over food and clothing left behind at the SF Bay Half post-event
  • Collecting used sneaker donations at Sports Basement packet pick up

Registration fees start at $29 for the Twin Peaks Climb, and $109 for the Virgin Sport SF Bay Half Marathon. Participants will be invited to make a donation for Virgin Sport’s local Give Back partner, Playworks, who aims to increase physical activity by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day. Playworks will be leading games for the whole family to participate in, illustrating their dedication to healthy play.
