MCM runners, Canadian Longboarder Chris Koch and industry experts provide perspectives
QUANTICO, VA (Oct. 11, 2017) – Chris Koch, a farmer from Alberta, Canada, born without limbs, is setting out on his latest adventure – to participate in the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in Arlington,
VA and the nation’s capital on Oct. 22.
While Koch is aiming for a four-hour MCM finish, he is also bringing his “If I Can” message of possibility to the MCM Runners Conference, sponsored by the Columbia Business School. This year, the MCM Runners Conference includes “MCMTalks, presented much like a TED Talk.
Register free of charge the Runners Conference including the “MCMTalks,” at www.marinemarathon.com. All sessions will be held in Chesapeake Rooms H & I at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, in National Harbor, MD.
MCMTalks includes Koch’s incredible journey along with other MCM runners who have gained a unique perspective from their personal experiences.
MCMTalks will feature runners who have faced difficulties from Parkinson’s disease, to becoming an aging competitor, to weight loss and anxiety as well as a runner who has gleaned great success from setting personal goals.
During the two-day Runners Conference, MedStar Sports Medicine’s Dr. Ankit Shah, also will present “The Heart of a Champion” from a cardiologist’s viewpoint and MedStar will host a strength training session for runners.
In addition, Runners Conference attendees can hear from MCM Director Rick Nealis, now celebrating his 25th anniversary at the helm of “The People’s Marathon.” There also are two opportunities to hear from running industry experts such as Clif, Team Beef and Runners World during the “MCM Final Prep,” and the “Runners World” panel that completes the sessions on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Honoring the dedication, sportsmanship, and patriotism of its participants, the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is also known as “The People’s Marathon,” as runners from all walks of life annually participate.
