17.75K on March 25 in Prince William County, VA celebrates Marine Corps founding
QUANTICO, VA (February 17, 2017) – With an eager pace of eleven minutes, 12 seconds runners from 45 states have snapped up all 3,000 entries for the Marine Corps 17.75K as registration opened at 11 a.m. Eastern today. On March 25, every Marine Corps 17.75K finisher will receive an “access granted” card guaranteeing a coveted spot in the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon held this October in Arlington, VA and the nation’s capital.
The unique 11.03-mile distance of the Marine Corps 17.75K commemorates the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1775. This challenging run occurs through scenic Prince William Forest, a national park. Runners will travel a course that has both gravel and asphalt through the winding turns of the dense woods. At the finish, U.S. Marines will present specially designed finisher medals depicting a leaf native to the park.
Access Granted is available to finishers age 14 and above, as 14 is the youngest age eligible to run the MCM. 17.75K participants will have until noon Eastern on Monday, March 28 to register for the 42nd MCM.
For those not running the Marine Corps 17.75K, the MCM Lottery open from March 22-29 provides yet another opportunity to register for the Marathon at www.marinemarathon.com.
