For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members will be able to “officially” participate in DONNA events on treadmills in participating Retro Fitness clubs using Outside Interactive’s Virtual Runner race course simulator technology.
Jacksonville, Florida October 18th, 2017 – Today it was announced that The DONNA Foundation has teamed up with Outside Interactive and participating Retro Fitness clubs to offer runners the chance to race for a great cause in an entirely new way. A DONNA digital race course has been created for Breast Cancer Awareness month and will allow runners to raise money to finish breast cancer by participating remotely through an online interactive race experience, with their iPad® or Android® tablet on Retro Fitness treadmills.
Exclusive footage was shot the morning of prior year’s races, immediately prior to the live event. Footage is shot from a runner’s point of view to produce a high-definition video that allows viewers to interactively see and run the virtual race course with their iPad® or tablet device – with cheering spectators lining the roads, even breaking the finisher’s tape.
“We are honored to partner with The DONNA Foundation,” stated Gary McNamee, Outside Interactive president and founder. “One of the major benefits of our Virtual Runner technology is providing charities the ability to raise funds in an entirely new and fun way.”
“Outside Interactive’s technology is groundbreaking and we’re excited to see our race courses brought into the digital world,” stated Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of The DONNA Foundation. “People will now be able to enjoy a beautiful run along the Florida shoreline and officially be part of our race right in their participating Retro Fitness club. “
“We are always trying to engage our members with exciting group activities,” stated,” stated David Garrard, former NFL Quarterback and owner of the participating Retro Fitness locations in Queen’s Harbor and Baymeadows. What better way to stay fit than participating remotely in the DONNA Run while raising funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month?”
Through the use of its state-of-the-art cameras, filming and editing techniques, the HD simulated-course videos, shot from the runner’s point of view, are made interactive to the runner’s pace through its use with Outside Interactive’s free downloadable app called “Virtual Runner.” The iPad and Android apps allow for adjustment of the video speed to match the runner’s exact pace. For an even more immersive experience, all versions are compatible with footpod and heart rate monitor accessories utilizing ANT+™ wireless technology, which automatically and accurately drive the pace of Virtual Runner course videos. Select Bluetooth® compatible treadmills will also allow for incline and video speed control to match the hills on the course and in the video.
