Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at USATF
1 Mile Road Championships on May 12; Rob Molke, Jon
Peterson at Newport 10,000 May 14
Minneapolis/St. Paul –
May 10, 2016 – Five Team USA Minnesota runners –
including defending champion Heather Kampf –
will compete at the USATF 1 Mile Road
Championships hosted by the Medtronic TC 1 Mile in
downtown Minneapolis on May 12. Kampf is a
two-time Medtronic TC 1 Mile winner and a three-time
USATF 1 Mile Road champion. She has a best in
the road mile of 4:21.39.
Also running in the 1 Mile
Road Championships will be teammates Meghan
Peyton, Katy Moen, Jon Peterson and Biya
Simbassa. Peyton has a best in the mile
of 4:40.5, and Moen ran 4:50.04 in her first road mile
at the Grand Blue Mile on April 26. Peterson has
run 4:00.41 in the mile while Simbassa has posted
4:06.38 in the distance.
According to race
officials, the event is expected to draw more than
2,800 runners during a full evening of racing in
addition to the men’s and women’s championship
races. The Medtronic TC 1 Mile will also feature
a new course, starting near the Mill City Museum,
racing past Gold Medal Park, and finishing along the
Mississippi Riverfront near the Guthrie Theatre.
The mile races start at
6:30 p.m. with the women’s championship race
scheduled for 7:54 p.m. and the men’s championship
race at 8:06 p.m.
Newport 10,000 –
Rob Molke and
Jon Peterson will be among the
competitors at the Newport 10,000 in Jersey City on
May 14. Molke has a best of 28:57 in the 10,000
meters and Peterson has posted 28:50 in the distance.
