Kampf to Compete at USA Indoor Championships in
Portland March 11-12; Biya Simbassa to Run at USA 15k
Championships in Jacksonville March 12
Minneapolis/St. Paul –
March 8, 2016 – Team USA Minnesota’s Heather
Kampf will compete at the USATF Indoor
Championships that will be held in Portland, Oregon,
on March 11-12, while teammate Biya Simbassa
will run in the USATF 15k Championships in
Jacksonville on March 12.
Kampf qualified for the
Indoor Championships in both the 3000 meters and 1500
meters but has chosen to compete only in the 1500.
Her 3000m time of 8:58.34 was a personal best and she
qualified for the 1500m event by running 4:27.26 for
the indoor mile, also a personal best. Her best
mark in the 1500m is 4:04.50. The women’s
1500m will be held on Saturday at 5:42 p.m. (Pacific).
The USATF Indoor
Championships are being held at the Oregon Convention
Center in Portland with live coverage on NBCSN on
Saturday from 5-7 p.m. (Pacific). The top two
competitors who have the World standard in their event
will qualify for the IAAF World Indoor Championships
which will be held in Portland March 17-20.
On the East Coast,
Simbassa will be among the competitors at the USATF
15k Championships which will be held as part of the
38th annual Gate River Run, billed as the largest 15k
in the USA with over 20,000 participants. The
race starts at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern).
Simbassa has a best in the
10 mile of 49:11 and the half marathon of 1:03:28,
which he set in January at the Aramco Houston Half
Marathon. In February, he placed 12th at the USA
Cross Country Championships in Bend, Oregon, and won
the Space City 10 Miler and Rodeo Run 10k, both in
